Less on Holiday in a Bid to Reduce
According to a new poll, British holidaymakers are planning to deal with their bad credit debt by spending a fifth less holiday money on their main holiday this year.
The results of a survey by leading price comparison website Travelsupermarket has revealed that the amount of holiday spending money each person is budgeting for has dropped from £1,014 in 2010 to £829 this year.
“Although times are tough for many families, it’s important they find the time to take a vacation away from their everyday life, even if it means getting a small amount of money for travelling to the coast or camping with the family.”
78% of those questioned cited cost as a key factor when booking their holiday on finance, but six months ago this figure was only 43%.
The cost of a holiday is now considered a far more important factor than other reasons, such as the weather and the available facilities, both of which came in at 37% during the poll.
“The research clearly illustrates how bad credit debt and current economic circumstances are affecting the average household,” stated Mr James, of Bad Credit Loans 4 You.
“A break away used to be something the whole family could look forward to, but travel expenses and your holiday spending money is hard to save for, unless you take a holiday on credit and make the small repayments on your return.”
The amount of holiday cash people have forecast to spend whilst away on holiday has fallen from £307 per week in July 2010 to £298 this year.
Results from the leading travel comparison website highlighted Northern Irish residents as the biggest potential spenders whilst abroad.
The figure of £373 of travel cash per week was the highest amongst the poll results, but still a big drop from last years figures of £420 a week.
Holidaymakers from the East Midlands expected to part with the smallest amount of money for travel expenses at just £256 a week.
The poll also showed a distinct gap in holiday money expenditure between sexes.
Men plan to spend more per week than women whilst they are away, with the average figure being £334 a week, compared with £348 only six months ago but £313 a year ago.
The figure which women are expecting to part with has continued to decline, standing at only £258, a drop from £265 six months ago and lower than £278 from a year ago.
Men plan to spend more in total for their holiday than women, paying £922 per person on average for their main summer holiday compared with an average of £740 for women.
“The last 12 months has been financially insecure for many households, but travel firms and tourist boards will be pleased to see that the figures for planned holiday money spending has not dropped by too much,” confirmed Mr James, of Bad Credit Loans 4 You.
“We’re expecting to see an increase in demand for holiday finance and holiday credit requests, but the amount of travel money and travel cash holidaymakers ask for will probably, on average, end up being lower than last year.”
