Committing to your partner in front of family and close friends is said to be one of the happiest days of your life, but planning a wedding can be a daunting and stressful experience.
Ever increasing wedding expenses, interfering parents, and feuding relatives can all add to the pre-wedding strain.
“But with so many different parts involved with piecing a wedding together, it’s hard to stay within your budget and keep everyone happy.”
With this in mind, it should come as no surprise that many couples are deciding to forgo the traditional wedding approach and enjoy both the ceremony and honeymoon abroad.
“Getting married abroad is becoming more and more popular,” said Megan Barker, a wedding consultant at travel firm Kuoni, which offers packages in 27 countries around the world.
“Our number one destination is Sri Lanka. This is because you can get five-star luxury and a beautiful unique wedding for great value.”
Planning a wedding abroad is often not only cheaper, but booking through a tour operator can help to relieve some of the pressure, with wedding coordinators in the UK and at your resort working to ensure everything runs smoothly.
However, there are practical issues which must be resolved, but listed below are a few handy tips to help you get the best for your wedding finance and honeymoon money.
Where to begin?
“The best way to start your wedding finance plan is to pick up a wedding brochure and search for a destination that suits you and your wedding loan budget,' said Mr James, of Bad Credit Loans 4 You.
“You can then decide whether you want a traditional hotel package or something more unusual.”
Whether you fancy getting married in a shark reef aquarium in Las Vegas, at an Ice Hotel in Quebec or on the Giant Ferris Wheel in Vienna, there’s a wedding finance package out there to suit you.
Cost
A survey of 1000’s brides, carried out by You & Your Wedding magazine in 2010, found the total cost of the average wedding had increased to a bad-credit-bursting £19,779.
But a holiday package abroad can cost a lot less, with a Las Vegas ceremony starting at only £300 per couple.
Although you have to factor in the cost of hotel accommodation, food and flights, it’s considered reasonable to expect the guests to pay most of their own way.
For something more luxurious, The Sea Breeze Beach Hotel in Barbados has a luxury wedding package starting at £429 (2011 price) which includes minister and registrar fees, a registered marriage certificate, flowers, wedding cake, sparkling wine and an ocean view room upgrade.
“You can find a package to suit your wedding finance budget no matter what country you decide to get married in,” said Mr James of Bad Credit Loans 4 You.
“If you want something really special, then a wedding loan will stretch further and help you pay for a wedding abroad which you will truly never forget.”
Insurance Cover
Although you can’t insure your relationship, you can make certain that all your wedding plans are sufficiently covered, which could save you money to put towards your honeymoon if there is a hiccup.
Peter Straddon, spokesperson at the British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA) previously stated that couples should double check their premiums as simple travel insurance will not cover everything; “A wedding is different and, as such, brings with it other problems, the dress, the rings, and the wedding refinery.”
High street names such as John Lewis and Debenhams offer wedding insurance packages starting at just £39 online.
Ensure it’s legal
Each country has its own requirements when it comes to certifying a marriage or civil partnership as legal, so it’s important to check this out prior to leaving.
“It’s best to contact the foreign embassy of the country you plan to marry in and ask about what documentation is required,” stated Mr James, of Bad Credit Loans 4 You.
“You should also check any visa issues or if you need proof of residency, as some countries require that you reside there a certain number of days before you get married.”
It’s also worth getting advice from a lawyer to make certain your marriage would be legal in the UK.
Book Early
“Unlike booking a normal holiday, you’ll be devastated if one or more of the options you have decide upon are no longer available when you go to book,” said Mr James, spokesperson at Bad Credit Loans 4 You.
Booking at least six months in advance will help secure the dream wedding package you are after, give your guests enough time to prepare and allow plenty of time to save money for honeymoon expenses.
Check, Re-check and Check Again
If you forget to pack something, it could have a big impact on your special day, particularly if it’s important or of some meaning to you.
There’s no point in taking out wedding ring finance if you leave them behind either when you pack.
“Make two or three complete lists of items which you plan on taking away with you, but on separate days,” advised Mr James, of Bad Credit Loans 4 You.
“Then check the lists against each other to make sure you have accounted for absolutely everything you need because you’ll be unlikely to get it abroad in a hurry no matter how much wedding finance you have.”
Not so Easy-Iron
Although you don’t want to compromise on your dream wedding dress too much, it’s quite important you get one which won’t be ruined when you pack it in your bag.
Trying to get out the creases without ruining the dress altogether will be almost impossible at a remote holiday resort.
Don’t Over-Sunbathe
Having arrived at your destination you’d be forgiven for kicking back and relaxing by the pool, safe in the knowledge your wedding plans have been taken care of.
But beware as a bright red face and sunglass tan lines don’t look so good in wedding photos, especially if you are wearing a white dress.
Bad Credit Loans 4 You helps out people who fear they have been blacklisted because of past poor credit history which could include CCJ’s and defaults, arrears, late credit card payments or repossession.
